Out of Your Tree - Woodturners

Welcome

Anne Strahan, Woodturner, produces handcrafted goods, specialising in highly decorative items worked on a lathe. None of the wood used has been felled specifically for this purpose, but comes to her after a tree has fallen, either due to storm damage, or as a result of clearing for roads or agriculture. She uses many kinds of native Irish timber, such as Sycamore, Ash, Elm, Yew, Walnut, Cherry and Oak. Occasionally, when it is available, she also uses wood from more unusual trees, such as Robinia, Ginko and Laburnum.

If you have a piece of wood from a favourite fallen tree and would like a keepsake, or a wedding present, or simply a gift made from it, she would be happy to create something for you. She welcomes any pieces that include unusual burrs or knots. By turning bowls and platters with flaws like these, she has created some of the most interesting items of her collection.
